For tourists and travellers visiting the North Wales area, one attraction that must not be missed is Snowdonia National Park. The name Snowdonia comes from Snowdon, the mountain in the area that is also the highest mountain in Wales. The area of Snowdonia is also called Eryri in Welsh, a word which is either derived from the Welsh word for eagle, or else simply a name for highlands. Until the park was established the Snowdonia area was much smaller, but now Snowdonia refers to the entire national park, which measures almost 830 square miles in all.
This impressively splendid area has been a tourist attraction for all sorts of visitors, but especially for hikers and trekkers. The trails and views that can be seen in this area are incredible and sights worth travelling miles to see. There are mountains and hills that are full of life and thriving with beauty and the rich landscapes of the area can be found nowhere else. Campers and mountain walkers can come to Snowdonia to travel one of the many pathways that have been made, or can simply walk into the wild and enjoy the beauty. There are almost 1,500 miles of footpaths that can be travelled and discovered.
Visitors can also go bird watching in Snowdonia, as there are all kinds of interesting birds in the area. The diversity of the bird life in this area will keep an avid birdwatcher busy for hours. And if bird watching isn’t for everyone, then perhaps a mountain biking trip will provide visitors with the fun and adventure that is needed. The mountain trails are exciting and from them can be seen all sorts of views and sights.
Some of the wildlife and flora that are nearly exclusive to this area of Wales include the Snowdon Lily, the Snowdonia hawkweed Hieracium snowdoniense, and the Snowdon beetle. The Snowdon Lily is a flowered arctic-alpine plant which is a member of the lily family, and it can also be found in North America under the name of the common alp lily. The Snowdonia hawkweed is a perennial plant which almost went extinct but which can be found in this area. The Snowdon beetle is a beetle with many bright colours which is extremely rare even in this area.
Besides the great views and interesting wildlife and nature to be found in Snowdonia, visitors can also come there to simply relax, eat, and enjoy the nature. There are many places to eat in the area, as well as hotels and inns to stay at, and a visitor is sure to find everything that he or she will need in the area. Snowdonia is just one of the many great places to visit in the Wales area, but it is certainly one of the most beautiful and enjoyable.
